A Guide to Custom Fields and Mandatory Field Settings

Blank Values

When using Mandatory Fields with Custom Fields, blank or “null” values are supported across all field types, including number and dropdown fields. This ensures data is only treated as valid when deliberately entered, rather than relying on defaults.

Dropdown Experience

  • On the web app, dropdown fields start with a placeholder option: "--".

  • On mobile, dropdowns show "Tap to select" by default, prompting technicians to make a selection and eliminating confusion over pre-selected options.

Validation Logic

Through validation logic with Mandatory Fields and Custom Fields, any required fields left blank trigger clear visual cues and helpful messages. This is especially important for fields marked as mandatory by your back-office team.

This will streamline data collection, reduce errors, and support more accurate, compliant job workflows across your teams.

Administering Custom Dropdown Fields

Reorder and Archive features help you better manage Custom Dropdown Fields in the Custom Fields view via Company Settings.

Reorder Dropdown Options

Easily customize the order of dropdown options to reflect the most logical or frequently used selections for your workflows from any Custom Dropdown Field directly from the Custom Fields settings view.

Archive Dropdown Options

FA Admins can now archive specific dropdown options from the Custom Fields settings view to keep your dropdowns clean and relevant.

  • What happens when you archive an option?

    • The archived option will no longer be visible or selectable in any dropdown across the app.

    • Existing jobs that previously used the archived option will retain the value for historical accuracy, but the option will be hidden in future selections.
