Restricting Mobile Technicians to Task Groups

Ensure field personnel add the correct Task Group to a job, and not individual Tasks.

Written by Product Education Team

[Release date: September, 2026]

If your Task Groups represent how a service or repair should be done, you probably want Technicians adding the bundle rather than picking Tasks out of it. Until now you couldn't enforce that — turning off Add Tasks to Job also hid the control that adds Task Groups, so the choice was to allow both or neither, and Jobs came back missing the Items and attachments the Task Group would have carried.

With this release, the two permissions are now independent. Switch off Add Tasks to Job, leave Add Taskgroups to Job on, and the only thing a Technician can add on site is the full Task Group.

What This Does

The Select Task dropdown and Add Task button on Mobile now appear whenever either permission is enabled, and the list shows only what the Technician is allowed to add.

🗒️ Note: Applies to Mobile, with the permissions set in the web app. The same behaviour applies to Jobs and Quotes, and to all role types. No setup required beyond updating the permissions.

How to Allow Task Groups Only

  1. Go to Roles & Rights and open Job or Quote sections.

  2. Under the Job permissions, set Add Tasks to Job to off (for Quotes, set Add Tasks to Quote to off)

  3. Set Add Taskgroups to Job/Quote to on.

  4. Save your changes.

Technicians in that role will see the Add Task button on a Job, and only Task Groups will be listed.

👏🏼 Tip! Repeat the same settings under the Quote permissions if you want the behaviour to match on Quotes.
